Topic Description

If you start out with a single celled organism, and you divide it into two cells, you would then have two unicellular organisms. This separation of bacterial cells is known as binary fission and is used by prokaryotes as a means of asexual reproduction. Prokaryotes do not have a nucleus, and their DNA is organized differently. Therefore, they do not utilize mitosis.
