Topic Description

Lisa is a 25-year-old Black/African-American woman who is 27 weeks pregnant.  Lisa was just transported to the hospital by ambulance with a complaint of abdominal pain and is being seen by the triage nurse.  


*You will be presented with two versions of Lisa’s story line which will play in succession. Please note any thoughts, differences or takeaways you might have as you move through the two scenarios.  


This activity should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. 


Learning Objective: At the completion of this module, participants will: 

  1. Recognize barriers to care and how they may influence and play a role in a patient’s access to healthcare. 

  1. Understand how a patient’s personal background/history, and social determinants of health influences their health-seeking behaviors, medical decision-making, or 3. Influences their interactions with the healthcare system.
